I live in Toms River. Growing up, (out of town,) my mother would buy used books from the library and thrift shops, and sometimes garage sales. My kids just started really reading- like easiest kid chapter books- and I would love to stock up without the high price tag. Any ideas?
Books like encyclopedia brown, magic tree house, the littles, cam janson... and I’m Sure there are more...

Look on ebay. Lots of retired teachers selling classroom libraries as a set.

Betterworldbooks.com and thriftbooks.com. Sign up for better world books' emails or check out retailmenot.com because there's usually a coupon code to use for a little bit off on their used books.

I got about 100 books from eBay in a lot for about $70. It's from a classroom library and it was sold by level, which was perfect for me because I was buying for my daughter's speech therapist to use with her and I wanted a specific level of difficulty. A few weren't appropriate (by my standard) but still a good deal.

How far are you willing to drive? There are some pretty great used bookstores and thrift store locations with good children's book selections. They are usually cheaper than online because you don't pay shipping.

20-25 minutes?
In the thrift store near my mother, she can get these books for about $1.50 each. EBay looks like it might be an option, but most other websites are not as well priced.

I only looked up magic tree house series, but I can buy them new on amazon for $4 each.

There’s a great thrift store called unique. Google locations to see where the closest one to you is.

I second Unique. Also check to see if there's a Red White & Blue thrift shop located near you.

Which BPL sells used books? My local branch hasn't sold books for a good few years now.

I've found book sales in most of the local library branches in your area, but they'll only have a limited amount amount of books that you'll be interested in. Usually, you can fill up a bag for a dollar.

For $3.99, I can sometimes buy brand new children's paperbacks on Amazon. When I buy used, I want them to cost $1 or less.
