I’m from Passaic it’s definitely the brown water issue- happens pretty often. I once had a load of whites in and exactly that happened. My husband bought a rust removal chemical and we poured it into the machine with the laundry then washed it a few times. It worked! The stains came out

You can get this product directly from Passaic valleyWater commission. Just call them and tell them what happened and they will bring you the product.
