We live in NYC. I grew up in NYC. I never had filtered water. We drank water from the tap. Or filled a picture from the tap and kept it in the fridge for cold water.
Filtered or bottles water is just not on my radar. When we have guests we put a few bottled waters in their rooms but we don't use bottled water on the regular. Filtered and bottled water is expensive and not a priority for me.
I have a relative coming to stay and she told me she only drinks bottled or filtered water. She said this as a given. I'm wondering if this is a standard standard and I'm just killing myself slowly with tap water. Is this something I should accommodate?
What are your thoughts?

I never drink from the tap. Filtered or bottles only.
I don’t know about health, I just can’t stand the taste.

Is she staying for a while? If it's just a few days I would just get some water bottles for her.

For Kashrus reasons, your NYC water should be filtered.

There is a kashrus issue with some water systems. I would buy bottled water for a guest who asks.

Just clicked on this thread again by accident. Wondering why this was hugged. This is a well known psak, it's not a chumra or minhag.

We use a Brita that we fill from the tap. We take reusable water bottles filled from the Brita when we go out. Before the summer I buy 1 case of disposable water bottles from Costco to send on camp trips or give to guests or handymen or whomever. We always end up with extra.

Most of us have a filter system under the sink and drink from the tap, which has been filtered. There is a thing in the tap itself as well. The system is cheap and easy to install, no reason for a pricey one. So we drink from the tap, but its filtered tap.

I find it is a fair request.
Some people have finicky digestive systems.
There can be an issue with fluorid for some.

I lived in NYC for a few years, and I rented (as did my friends at the time). We all used the filters that go over the faucet (EZ filter was the name I believe). I never looked into the under the sink filter, I assumed it would be expensive and it didn't make sense to put that money into a rental.
Doesn't matter so much what you use, as long as it filters out the microscopic copepods which render NYC drinking water not kosher.

We live in nj and drink unfiltered tap water.
Once had a family of 8 come. Only drank bottled water. It was hard.
They came from A city were the water tastes disgusting. Like chlorine pool water. So understand there.
But our water tastes fine. But they wouldn’t drink it. So I borrowed from neighbor on Shabbos to repay after.

People here hug whatever they disagree with, just to be passive aggressive. See, eg, https://oukosher.org/blog/cons.....ater/
I've heard the psak, but its not something that we hold by. CYLOR.

Besides for the kashrus issue nyc water tastes disgusting. I have never been to a house in nyc that didn’t have bottled or filtered water.

Whenever we go to my in-laws in Brooklyn we take along a case of gallon spring water. They're so accommodating with everything else, but somehow they take it very personal when we voice our displeasure against their tap water.
