My lunch break is unpaid and it’s an hour. Paid during the abridged hours would be 1/2 hour I’d guess

I work 9-5 and get 30 minutes paid lunch. When I got an hour lunch, I worked 8:30-5:30. I never worked part time and got a paid lunch.

My office only gives paid lunch for those working full time, which is over 30 hours a week. They give 45 minutes.

I get an hour paid because I work full time. When you work part time, you don't get a lunch break

People get PAID lunch breaks? This is news to me; I've been in the work force for close to 50 years counting temporary jobs here and there and have never had a paid lunch, unless it was a working lunch like a schoolteacher who eats lunch with the class and is therefore really still working, not on a break. IME breaks vary from 30 to 60 minutes; occasionally some jobs get longer than an hour but in no case should a meal break be less than 30 minutes.

dh and I work full time. unpaid lunches for both of us, his is 30 min, mine is 60. he gets two official 15 min breaks during the day, in addition. I don't.

check your state requirements. in our state, anyone working 5 hours is entitled to a 30 minute unpaid meal break. (I'm not in ny/nj)

A lot of this comes down to company culture. What do your colleagues do?

If you only work 5 hours a day you are not entitled to a paid break. Typical for a full time employee is 30-60 minutes. Most closer to 30 IME

My only job I had that offered paid breaks (big corporation) had 2 15 min breaks and a 30 min lunch break, paid. This was only for working at least 8+ hours a day, anything less I only received one paid 15 min break

Most of my jobs have had 30 minutes, unpaid. So, let's say it was an 8 hour day but only 7.5 hours were paid hours. I've never had an option to work through lunch and leave half an hour early, but some jobs do (usually flexible small business type jobs).
I think 30 minutes is standard, but 45-60 min is not unheard of.

Labor laws require paid 15 minutes breaks for every four hours worked. I think it is four hours but it has been a while since I had to deal with those specific labor laws.

There is no requirement that lunch break be paid but a worker is entitled to a lunch break of 30 minutes for a full day.

It is the same in terms of requirement for overtime - 1 1/2 up to a certain number of hours and then double time. Some states in California have more worker friendly overtime so it is easier to collect overtime since it is calculated if one works over eight hours in a day rather than 40 hours in a week.

Most people who are legally salaried don't really have a lunch hour or breaks specifically because it is assumed they have flexibility and that their jobs are more task oriented. It is the same reason why there is no overtime.

However many people are paid a "salary" but really don't fit the legal requirements and should be entitled to overtime.
