How does the birth of a baby get covered if me and DH are on different health plans?
I know my plan will cover the pregnancy, but what happens once I give birth.
Can DHs policy cover the hospital stay for the baby?
And do I get to choose which plan I want the baby to be a dependent on?

I’m pretty sure you can choose- unless you are in your parents’ plan. in that case I don’t think your baby can be covered.

Yes this - you can’t put a child on your parents plan.
A lot of people have their kids on child health plus after they are born

Is there a reason you want the hospital stay on your husband but you currently aren’t on his?

Can I ask another question? Does baby need to be added to insurance before it’s born? Or is the hospital bill including care for the baby all on moms plan ?

Baby is usually covered under mom one time for the first admission. Separate hospital deductible for the babies admission usually. Example if it costs 500 dollar per hospital admission you will owe 1000 for yourself and the baby. If you’re anyways going to add the baby to your plan it will be covered retroactively There’s no way to add the baby before it’s born. If you’re going to put the baby on Child health plus It will definitely cover the baby retroactively and you won’t owe any hospital admission deductible that’s usually part of private plans.

DH has insurance for himself and my kids through work. To add me to the plan was another $800
So I have my own plan through the marketplace for $500.
But his is a much better company and more doctors will take it

First 30 days baby is covered under parents policy, then need own policy, whichever u choose.

father and baby also works no prob.

doesnt require mom to be on policy

adult (employee) + spouse
adult + kids
adult + spouse + kids

all ok and premiums are different based on coverage chosen
