I thought there are some instances where halachicly you do pull the plug?

We had to ask the question about my mother OBM but the answer was "no" because she had some brain waves. Usually people who are on ventilators die eventually which is what happened to my mother.

Yes, in some instances. But it's very complex and every case is individual and different.
Some are advised to pull the plug.
Some are advised to sign a DNR.
Some are advised not to seek treatment. Those p'saks are complex and depend on lots of different factors.
I'm assuming that if the Fixlers were fighting so hard for their daughter, then the advice they were given was to fight and do whatever they could to keep her alive. It's such a heart rending & traumatic situation for parents. Hashem yishmor.
