Because I want her to look cute and when skirts cover her knees she just looks shlumpy and in the summer she would just look like a sweaty mess.
She has tons of girls offering to take care of her because she’s dressed super cute.
She doesn’t look or act like the girls her age and it’s hard to even imagine a 11 year old girl is the same age as her.

Why does she look shlumpier than any other 11 year old ? (Is she literally the size of a 3 year old? I thought you meant her cognitions? Did you mean her size? Does she wear size 3t clothing?)

Cognitively she’s basically a 2.5 year old. She wears a size 8 and yes , because of the way she holds herself she would look shlumpier than other kids her age- never mind the sometimes drooling and the fact that she doesn’t know how to straighten her clothes on her own.

That to me is all the more reason to dress her in age appropriate way. You don’t want her to accidentally show her panties (or diaper) I definitely think it’s more respectful to her to dress her for her age. FWIW I’m MO.

OP I agree with you, you are her mother and you make sense.

I believe it's ok to slightly lower your standards if you feel others will react more positively to her. As much as people like to think that appearance doesn't matter to the wonderful teenage volunteers, I say trust your instincts as a mother.

It doesn't sound like you want to dress her like a three year old or in an undignified manner. There's really nothing wrong with dressing a SN 11 year old like an 8 year old.

As someone who volunteered with special kids as a teen, it wasn't about their clothing. It was about which parents and kids were easy to work with. The parents that treated the teens badly didn't get as many offers as the parents that were nice and pleasant to work with.

This isn't always the case. Teens fight to take out the cutest dressed kids in the fancy strollers.
