Onions (davar charif) cooking in meat pot

This topic always confuses me.

If I cut an onion with a pareve knife but cook it in a meat pot (not used within 24 hours) does it become meat?

As far as I know, the onions cannot be used with dairy. But you do not become fleishig from eating them. Aylor
