Just pure curiosity

Years ago I got a gown made at the Bridal building in Manhattan. Was about $1000. Was cheaper than renting. Not sure if it's still around.

There's a wide variety of price points for bridal gowns, but it's definitely possible to buy a dress for less than $2,000.
I bought a dress for ~$1200 plus alterations at RK bridal in Manhattan. They have a huge selection - tell them what you're looking for (long sleeves, no cleavage, etc) and your price range and they'll most likely have a few options.
You can also check on Etsy for custom-made dresses. Often these are made in Eastern Europe or elsewhere in the world so the prices are lower than if you were getting a custom-made gown in the US or EY.

I agree with $2,000 to be enough to have a decent array of dresses to look at. My daughter bought one from one of the Brooklyn Jewish stores with alterations for less than 1200. We bought the dress but rented the underskirt.
I'm sure it is easier if you are a more common size and height.

I bought a basically tsnius dress (just needed a white shell under, since sleeves were sheer with beading) at David’s Bridal. Needed no alterations and cost under 1k

Whoaaaa
I got mine from a gmach. It was beautiful. Free to borrow but I had to pay cleaning (around $100 something?)
I also paid a few hundred ($3-400) in alterations so it fit perfectly.

Do you have an address
Did you then go to a seamstress for a build up
Where did you get extra material
Or where you able to find tzniut dresses

1385 Broadway
There were a bunch of stores in the building and the dress was custom made didn't need to buy or add anything. Also alot of headpiece stores. I paid like $30 and the lady there told me they make them for Saks and put in tags that say Made in Italy and sell them for tons of $.
It look like they're temporarily closed cause of Covid.

I rented from a place in Brooklyn about 5 years ago for 1500-- included alterations and everything. They tailored it to my specifications (so if you hold differently with sleeve lengths, do what you want). I also looked into buying from a regular bridal store and building up or getting a David's bridal dress with alterations, but this worked out best to get a dress that didn't look built up or need a shell.
It's probably more expensive now (everything is), but it really worked out well. Alterations can really add a lot and I didn't have to pay to have it cleaned or preserved or find a way to store it. Gemachs are cheaper but I don't think you can alter the gowns (could be wrong, please be kind 😀)

Azazie.com
Search for dresses with long sleeves , for $10 you can order a sample dress to try on . Full price all are under $500 or so.

I also bought mine by RK Bridal in Manhattan. I think it was in the $1,200 range, all alternations done there. (Abt 15 years ago)
