Ds is staying to an apartment with friends for few months. He doesn’t eat much be there are no kosher restaurants around and they don’t have an oven. I want to send him shelf stable dinners like from meal mart, beef jerky and stuff like that. He likes meat and potatoes kind of food. I want him to have protein and healthy food. I’m worried about his diet because he has some health issues and he is loosing weight. He has a microwave and a small fridge. What can I send him?

With an instant pot he can cook vegetarian soups with beans if there's no protein to buy fresh

He doesn’t have the time and mind to cook. It is a dorm like place. I don’t think he even has a sink. He doesn’t like beans:(

Can you buy him a small freezer? That would make it a lot easier.

Should be a sink in the bathroom. But if he has access to milk (you can send frozen milk and he can defrost and put in fridge when he gets there) then you can send him protein powder and he can drink that for quick protein. Cereal would work as well. If he can heat up water (you can send him an electric kettle or water urn if that is allowed) then you can send him those instant soups, oatmeal, rice, instant mash potatoes, quinoa, etc. (check in the grocery to see what they have available). Protein bars, rice cakes, granola, nuts, etc would be good. Tuna in pouches or easy to open cans. Freeze yogurt and cheese if he can have it and send it along with frozen breads. Consider sending him a betty crocker pizza maker or a sandwich maker for easy grilled cheese sandwiches (and the betty crocker can be used for many more things, you can find ideas on this site if you search for it. and if you send along parchment paper then its easy cleanup).

Google 'kosher shelf stable meals'
https://www.amazon.com/s?k=kos....._1_14 (KJ Poultry meals - ordered and shipped through Amazon)
https://www.myownmeals.com (it's not clear if they'll ship privately)
https://www.aviglatt.com/shelf.....meals (meal mart)
https://labriutemeals.com/prod.....able/ (labriute)
I can't vouch for the taste, though!

My son loved Aufschnitt beef sticks which I shipped to him through Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod.....0dceb

Not sure where you are located, but maybe can find the mealmart amazing meals that don't need to be refrigerated and can be microwaved to be ready to eat.

Meal Mart Amazing Meals - they are shelf stable.

Some non perishable items that he can take are dried salami/beef jerky/beef sticks, tuna pouches, mayo packets, natural dried fruit leather, applesauce pouches, nuts, granola bars, protein bars, chocolate, peanut butter, rice cakes.

Humus if you find the non perishable cups.

Soup cups, instant oatmeal, instant lentil/rice cups (microwave boiling water).

He can also take shelf stable/no refrigeration needed ice cappuccino (if he's checking in luggage and can bring liquids)... Golden Flow now makes UHT milk that can stay on the shelf until opened as well, so you can send those with cereal.

If he accepts OU hechsher and chalav stam, he can find a lot of things at any grocery store, even in outer Mongolia.

Shelf stable milk is often available in tetra packs, the same way that soy milk is packaged. It's usually right on the same aisle. You can make pretty good scrambled eggs in the microwave. I did that a lot as a child.

A single burner portable stove top would be very useful if he had a pot and a frying pan. If that's above his skill set though, maybe not. (Boys should be able to cook!)

I hope he enjoys his trip, it sounds like a fun adventure.

This place delivers food with a hechsher frozen fresh and packed very well. You can order by the week and he can leave the meals in his fridge. A lot of people order when they are in collage or traveling far away and have no access to kosher food.

A betty crocker is a great kitchen took and maybe he can make himself those protein pancakes from Kodiak I think it's called. Just need rubber spatula and betty crocker. He can also make eggs in it or grilled cheese. If he has 2 he can use on for meat too but it doesn't sound like he makes meals like chicken. If you freeze marinated Cutlets and ship every week, maybe he can keep in the fridge and just pop on the betty.

Good luck!

Thank for the suggestions. Are the Meal Mart meals are the best tasting out of all the shelf stable meals? What about meal replacement drinks like ensure is it a hood idea?

Its all personal taste so buy one of each of the ones you think he would like then order more based on what he says he liked.
And there are plenty of protein shakes (again, its a matter of personal taste so he would have to try it first before you fully invest in anything as you dont want to spend money on things he wont like) especially if you eat OU-D (I will post a couple of protein shakes that are ou-d, you would have to search for best prices)-

These are the powder ones that he would need to mix with milk or water-- https://www.quill.com/carnatio.....w_wcB

These are the protein shakes that are ready made-- https://www.staples.com/carnat.....w_wcB

https://www.walgreens.com/stor.....w_wcB

Another option is to buy him a microwavable cookers like this pasta cooker-- https://www.amazon.com/Microwa.....psc=1

Or microwave multi boiler-- https://www.kohls.com/product/.....aw.ds

And you can always send a can opener with some cans of corn, peas and carrots, potatoes, or whatever he likes which he can open and warm up in the microwave with a microwavable plate.
