My children on are Medicaid. I always knew that eventually they would be kicked off if we made more money, but my husband is in yeshiva and I always thought it would happen when he gets a job. So yes, it would be difficult that he would get a job and be paying about half of it in insurance, but at least would be in the green.

But now, I was just offered an additional responsibility at my job, with more compensation. The addtional compensation kicks me right above the income limit for my family size. By accepting this new part of my job, I would be losing about $15K a year.
darn our communist country. Punch Punch Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

I'm sorry you're in this situation. I hope it's temporary.

Just so you know, communist countries have single-payer healthcare.

If you're just right over the limit, move some money into your 401k so that you still qualify.

I assume she was being sarcastic.

Or condemning the country for daring to help provide her kids healthcare, even if they no longer do so.

fine so not communism, not socialism. call it whatever you want.

There is smoething wrong with a system where people are de-incentiveized to make more money!! Where a raise means losing money!!!

How is this done? I do contribute to a 401k, but insurance chcks your gross income, not net.

Op would they be totally kicked off medicaid? Sometimes you can pay a monthly premium and co-pay before being kicked off.

I just want to point out the threshold for having your kids kicked off is pretty high. If you're being offered a job with such a nice salary that your one income is enough fo that to happen you have a lot to be thankful for.

And communist, huh?

There is something wrong with it, but it's a problem of a mixed system. A purely socialist system and a purely capitalist system both don't do this.

OP, if you live in NY, your kids likely still qualify for very inexpensive health insurance through the marketplace. If you previously qualified for medicaid and are now only a bit over the threshold, your premium for your kids should be pretty affordable.

https://www.health.ny.gov/heal.....t.htm

I imagine there are similar rules in other states too.

Op I totally relate
The one year that I took a managerial job, half my paycheck went to pay insurance and we actually ended up losing a lot of money and dipping into savings.
Since then, I only work at jobs where the salary is max 15k. Dh is training, but when he gets a job, he will need to jump from current to at least 60-80k in order for us to make it financially.
I think it's too big of a window between "eligible for govt assistance" and "being able to afford frum life."
It's a global issue. The Mishpacha dealt with it in their sukkos edition. You're not alone.

Your kids can prob get some other form of state funded insurance after Medicaid. You may pay
a small premium (ex $15 a month) but nothing major. Look into it, most states have it for kids with a much higher income cap than medic Id For you and your husband, maybe you can get on work sponsored insurance.

Thanks. The thing is its not "govt assistance" as in, we are on multiple different programs. We are not. It is just healthcare.

There should be a graduated system. It makes no sense to kicked off completely from one dollar to the next.

Thank you for this.

If I lived in NY, I would be eligible for Child Healthplus.

I am in NJ, though. Does anyone know if there is something similar?
