And is there a way to do it?

Dh gets health insurance from work, and it covers our children as well.

I happened to just check the income eligibility chart and I realized that we would be eligible for free Jersey care (the income limit is extremely high, somewhere close to $200k for a family our size).

Is there a way to switch? Does it pay to switch? I'm in Lakewood, will Jersey Care cover dentists, glasses, braces? Which I'm currently not being covered for on my husband's plan.

Jersey care will cover dentist, eye check up, an allowance towards glasses. Braces are almost impossible to have covered.
Do you pay for insurance from your husband's work?
You can keep it and have jersey care as secondary insurance to pay for your deductible. Not sure of details but I've heard of people doing that. Especially I'd private insurance might give you access to better drs.

I wonder the same, but was under impression that kids have to be off insurance for a while in order to get onto jersey care. Is it not so?

I believe you need to prove you are no longer able to get coverage from the employer for the kids.
He will need to give you a termination letter but if it’s included that the children get coverage through your husband it may not work.
In my work the adults are covered but we need to pay additionally for kids so I was able to do it.

They changed the rules recently. Now you can go straight onto Jersey Care. Definitely worth having, at least as a secondary insurance.

Do they have to be ineligible or terminated for work coverage?
Like I have it, but it costs a lot obviously, with deductible and copays.

Our insurance is free and kids are included, but we cant find in-network dentists or eye doctors here.

Interesting! I also noticed that it is now free, there used to be a charge for higher incomes.

Go for it. Absolutely. I wish I was eligible. Jersey care pays for everything

Family of 3. Income of 100k pre tax and 65k post tax and we aren't eligible. And insurance is around 20k for us. So why on earth our government thinks it's ok to reward non workers or off the books workers rather than rewarding hard working people is beyond my scope.

You need a better accountant. No way is your taxes 35%. Something is very off there.
We’re a family of 3 with an income of about 175 and our taxes are about 25%

You wouldn’t switch to jerseycare. You’d keep your current insurance and apply to jerseycare as your secondary. It’s worth it because why not? But if you drop your insurance you’re going to lose access to many doctors, it’s hard to get many medications approved, and other drawbacks.

Edit: I’d call the lrrc for advice 7329429292

You cannot have jc as a secondary insurance at the higher levels of eligibility.

That's what I thought. I would have to switch. So I'm wondering if it's worth it - and if it would be allowed if my insurance does currently cover my children for free....

Yes. You don’t have to take employer insurance for the kids if you are income eligible for jc.
There is also no wait period to get on jc after being on employer insurance . This just passed !

you’d be giving up so much if you switched. Sure you’d get $100 toward glasses per child. You’d still need to cover the rest. Yes there’s a handful of dentists in town that accept it, what happens if you need a specialist? Especially since chop is still in the air. We used to use chop for everything and now I’m really struggling to get my kids the care they need. A lot ends up coming out of pocket.

I posted the lrrc number above. I’d think long and hard before doing it. At least call all doctors and see if they take jerseycare.
