Op here.
Went shopping today.
I saw a TON of the flowy floral dresses.
Each one looked more chalushis than the one before. I’m a size 8.
Meh.
I see also a lot of very loose big flowy sleeves. With straight dresses.
But didn’t buy anything. Just felt it was so not me.
I’m sure I’ll make do with something in my closet 😞

How is the LBD (little black dress) ever out of style - especially for women of a "certain age".

Dress it up or dress it down.

You can buy trendy accessories, shoes and jewelry to change up the look.

My friend and I were reminiscing about clothing we grew up with in terms of the 80's. I had gone through my closet and had given her niece some of my old size 2 stuff from the 1980's which she loves and wears. My friend showed me some videos of her wearing the items. Smile

Certain things just have that outdated look.
I can’t explain it

Well of course some clothing is out of fashion and looks shlumpy. But classic clothing doesn't go out of style in a year or so - maybe in five years or so get an appraisal from an honest friend because it will probably look off. But maybe not.

I have dresses and suits from the 1990's which would look ridiculous if I wore them now. Although a young person would probably have fun with them in the same way that I loved wearing vintage clothing when I was young.

Im in my upper 30's in Lakewood. I have similar style dresses to ones OP showed. Obviously get a version that looks good on you, but these are very popular at weddings here. I like that they are not strictly for weddings. They can be worn dressed down for a regular Shabbos too.

One of the dresses that was linked above looks like it is from the 1880s. Laura Ingalls called and she wants her clothes back!

People should wear what they want but those dresses look like something a Sister Wife would wear.

They are not elegant in any way and look frumpy.

There are modest clothes that don’t look as if the wearer was a cult member. Often some of the older movie actresses like Meryl Streep wear modest cocktail dresses or less formal day dresses which are elegant. Princess Kate often dresses in a modest yet fashionable manner.

I have never seen these styles promoted as fashionable in any kind of current style magazine.

I was just at a wedding a few days ago. The girls in their 20’s were definitely wearing those dresses.
Older women (40+) stick with traditional black- either a dress or black skirt with top. Usually black tights with heels. A necklace, earrings, fresh shaitel…

Those dresses all seemed very black to me...could a thin, young looking forty something wear them to wedding?
