After my research/this post, I'm definitely reconsidering. We're trying to reach the contractor who would be installing to see if there's any way to do it without closing the boiler, but if that's a prerequisite I will not move forward.

Any updates?

We went with the option of not disconnecting the boiler. We still got rebates. I tried using the units for heat and they are super headache and stuffiness inducing...

How much were the rebates? Is it $250 a unit?

We use our mini splits for heat only when it's 35+ degrees outside. Below that the splits do not heat the house enough. Also, you generally install the splits near the ceiling. Heat rises, remember. The splits being at the top of the room works great for A/C but not heat. It takes a while for the room to heat up when the air is blowing at the ceiling

The units being installed can warm until -13 degrees. The issue I have with it is that it is literally blowing hot air around the room, which dries everything and everyone causing headaches and dizziness.
