rule is every 10 years
8 ok too, and so is 12, depends on condition
Brooklyn: sleep tight, taubus
Lakewood : Friedman is a busy store and everyone trust them. explain to them what type of mattress you like and they will help you. may take time to reach them, as they are very busy. they do ship to nyc and other places, weekly.

Any other inexpensive suggestions in Brooklyn?

I second Friedman. I bought from him a few times and have been extremely happy.

Theoretically a bed frame can last forever. My prior bed frame was vintage and probably from the 1930's. I bought a vintage brass bed frame from the 19th century which I used for many years.
A mattress wears out and advice is to replace it every ten years if not a bit sooner depending on use. Mattresses are not all of equal quality of course and a heavy large person will wear out a mattress before a slender person.

I buy tempurpedics (from sleepys but you can get them at any retailer) They have a full warranty the first ten years and then a phased out warranty over years 10-20. So theoretically they should last 10-20 years.

I don't remember offhand and don't have the time to research at the moment. But I do remember that I would not have been able to buy without going to the store and trying them out. There were some that were way too soft for me. I also didn't go with the firmest, but after getting used to the mattress after a few years I knew I'd replace it with a firmer one. So when you're feeling them, consider going up a level in firmness.

Oh and a quick Google shows that sleepys was acquired by mattress firm, which is all over Brooklyn. Also, I went with one of the cheaper tempurpedics models (they have a huge price range) and they've held up beautifully.

I think like others said 8 to 10 years is standard but people definitely do wait longer...
Very happy with my full size mattresses from Taubus

Taubus is pushing Gold Bond mattresses.
How do they compare to the well known brands?
