Hi, looking for ideas of what to serve the kids for lunch on Friday, even though it's such a short day they're still hungry. I need something quick and easy that I can make while busy with shabbos prep.

Also looking for Melave Malka ideas when I'm burnt out from cooking and serving shabbos but everyone is hungry.

Thanks!

We made crepes the past two weeks. It was pretty easy and a big hit.

For lunch or Melave Malka?

Can you share a recipe?

Thanks!

Meleva Malka
I think this is the recipe but not positive. It was from all recipes.
One cup flour
Half a cup water
Half a cup milk
Pinch of salt
Two eggs

I tripled the recipe, put it in a pan I move it around so it's fairly thin. We made some with peanut butter and chocolate, One liked it was cinnamon and sugar. And we had cut up candy to put in them and nuts if they wanted. So each person made what they like. They weren't huge and each person had a couple so they could make them each a little different.

Pizza for melava malka in Betty crocker. Buy ready dough and all you do is roll it out put it in the Betty crocker add sauce and cheese and takes about 10 min to be ready.
Or pasta in a pot and after the pasta is cooked add pasta sauce and shredded cheese on a low flame for a few minutes.
Or if you have a panini maker that's also easy.
As for Friday wouldn't they eat shabbos food like kugel and Farfel and Cholent etc?

Frozen pizza or grilled cheese...
No one in my house loves pancakes or french toast, but those are also good options

Maybe your kids aren't big eaters, but mine would still be hungry.

Many people don't have their Shabbos food cooked by lunchtime on Friday!

I came here to say this.

OP, no matter when shabbos comes in, lunch needs to happen. Shabbos dinner isn't right at 5. Frozen pizza, pasta, sandwiches… lunch things for lunch. Who says you have to put out a whole meal? There are always so many threads asking what people serve for lunch on Fridays, do a search.

My weekly pizza order is for Friday lunch. This is throughout the year. This is my treat to make sure my kids eat and I don’t have to cook lunch while I make Shabbos.

Melave Malka is usually a dairy meal as my kids don’t touch cholent. DH and I eat leftovers.

Last week I boiled up ravioli. Today we had waffles and smoothies. Scrambled eggs and challa etc..

First thing on Friday when I start the cooking is to make a big pot of pasta. As each child comes in they get a plateful in the microwave with sauce, cheese or both according to taste. That, together with a plate of cut up vegetables on the table takes virtually no time from Shabbos preparations, and keeps everyone well fed until Shabbos.

Take leftover matbucha, ( or buy special for this). Mix with pizza sauce and spread on a parchment paper in the Betty Crocker (or in a frying pan, but that you’ll need to clean.)
Once warmed up add some shredded cheese on top and 5 or 6 eggs to make the easiest shakshuka ever.
Let cook until the eggs are still runny but not raw…

I don’t cook anything.

My kids eat lunch in school. Usually the regular sandwiches etc.

Melave malka is pizza at Avos u bonim. My littler kid’s who don’t go have pizza bagels or something else from the freezer.

Frozen knishes
Boiled potatoes with margarine or toppings. I guess baked would also do.
Here's a recipe idea from the cookbook Dinner Done (amounts and times are approximate): in a 9x13 pan combine 1lb pasta, 1 jar spaghetti sauce, water (I believe 1/2 jar) and shredded cheese. Bake covered until done
