My nails are unevenly cut
And the polish chipped real bad
My clothes starred in last years pictures too
Its creases smoothed by a Walmart iron.

My job too far though can’t afford a car
The subway means the long way
But I need that time to cook dinner
Sometimes chicken never meat

Gifts made from home ingredients
Maybe dough and sugar, maybe an old sweater
Need no cupboard space for plastic wear
But wish I had containers and boxes  for silver wear
And cans
And spices
And candy
And everything I own
Coz I’m a perfectionist
And I like things tidy

Lemon, a bit of sugar, and tap water make fine lemonade
But can’t compare to Minute Maid’s
Or cocktails
At a bar  
Or on the shores of Mexico
For a honeymoon or a vacation
Long overdue

Movies in the car with soggy sandwiches
On a small screen and low sound
somewhere
in some park
I guess it works
as long as it’s dark

Lying in my bed- headboardless - thinking
Of things that could be, wishfully
Crying for better things
That money brings

But I realize how pathetic I am
For my eyes can actually cry
And my brain thinks deeper than most
My hands work faster and quicker than many
My legs carry a figure shaped fine
And lying in the bed next to me
A husband that loves me
Like a song that’s never been sung
Holding our baby
Who’s sweeter and finer than every wine you’ll find
And our marriage stronger
Then any mansion you’ll build

Money is something we will work hard for and get one day
But as cliched as this sounds
money cannot buy all that’s truly mine.
