Looking for a budget friendly music option for a small wedding. I asked a DJ and the rate he named seemed high so I'm wondering what is typical. About a 4 hour job. (NY, if it matters)

I'm curious to hear about your budget. I have a few references for DJs in NY, if you're interested.
I can ask around. My DH was a DJ in that area and has a few friends who are still there.

I booked a DJ this week for $400. Hes staying from start to end of Bar Mitzvah.

Wow, that's quite a range.

I do not have a budget yet because I need to base that on what's reasonable and I literally have no idea. We're trying to spend as little as possible overall but of course things are adding up too fast.

Yikes, that seems like a fortune! We made a Bar Mitzvah in Flatbush earlier this year and paid a one-man band (keyboard/singer), who usually costs more than a DJ, under $1000.

OP, make sure you get references from whoever you're thinking of using, just to make sure people have been happy with him. Or better yet, ask if he has any jobs coming up where you can drop by to watch him in action.

I don't want a motivator, B"H our crowd is motivated enough. I just want nice leibedig music without a band. And I would love to know how much that is supposed to cost because I have someone who could potentially do it but they asked what my budget is and I have no idea because I don't know what goes.
