What do most people usually do? I am thinking of starting a wedding business and wondering if it’s worth it.

Probably all three, depending on local community and income level. We went to a gemach.

This is an area where local research among your potential clientele is a lot more valuable than asking an international group of women of all income levels and strands of Judaism.

Depends. I had a weird body shape (size 16 shoulders, size 6 waist and extremely tall) and couldn't find anything from a gemach that fit without a thousand dollars worth of alterations (since it needs to be able to be undone), so I bought from somewhere that includes alterations (where the dresses started based on shoulder size and the rest was taken in to your body shape. I have many friends who went the gemach route. The line between gemach and rental is blurred these days since many gemschs charge

In Israel a gemach IS a rental service. It's the same thing.

Its a personal decision probably based on finance and who knows what else.
There is no one general way more than another.

In my dati leumi yishuv in Israel in the last year, I know brides who have bought, rented, and gone to gemachs. All the options are available. It depends on the bride, her taste, and her budget.

I think that a major selling point is good customer service. Can you offer alterations quickly, do you appeal to different tastes, can you add delivery and pick-up? All those matter.

I paid for two cleanings, one before I wore it and one after I returned it. That's it.

See what is around in your area
You need to fill a gap, a need
This is with any business
Also customer service goes a long way
I will go to a store that charges a bit more (up to 20-25%) just for the customer service

The bride and bridal party want to feel special even if they are getting the dress from a Gemach
Don’t act like you are doing them a favor
