you light on the window sill or on a table and why do you choose one over the other?

Windowsill is not wide enough.
Do you mean a bay window or window seat? If so, please make sure that your blinds are sufficiently far enough away that they don’t catch fire

Our window sill is way too narrow- we pull a table over to the window

Windowsills are dangerous; narrow, sitting on wood, near flammable blinds, near combustible glass.

Table near the window. Unless your house is built of stone, lighting candles on the windowsill is a disaster waiting to happen. Even with the sills covered in aluminum foil and no curtains, drapes, blinds or shades anywhere near the windows.

We have a very large window sill and I would never consider it. It seems too dangerous.

Most window sills are too shallow for menorahs. DH built a shelf on top of the window sill deep enough for safety. It is permanently attached to the sill. We don't have blinds and the open curtains are at least 18" away from the menorahs.

DH covers the window sill in foil. It's wide enough and much more stable than a table. We move our couches away so noone sits too close and I wait up until all the flames are out.

Define table. We use a permanent sturdy table that's always in the room. No folding menorah stands or short side tables. Those are too easy to bump into and flip over.

We have a wide windowsill made out of marble, and we cover it with foil. Blinds are put way high up with the pulleys looped up and out of the way. Bottom of blinds covered in foil too.
Works fine for us. No one has huge menorahs though... My husband uses my $30 one from high school and my boys when they're home have a similarly priced one.

We have a bay window. We neither have space nor a strong enough table to put in front of it. A table in our case would be a lot more dangerous.
