Anyone here know where I can hire a cleaning lady for one time (or occasionally) I am willing to pay a bit higher than the norm if necessary, as long as she is good.

For a single time, and if you're willing to pay a higher rate, use an agency. They're usually insured and bonded, so you don't have to worry about getting references for individuals, or lack of a personal relationship.

Do you have a local listserv? People there can usually recommend. I doubt I live in your area, so the people I use wouldn't be helpful to you.
