Hi.

My 7 month old son is really struggling with eating his bottles and I’m starting to suspect possible tongue tie. He is also not gaining enough weight and is refusing bottles and doesn’t nurse well.

I know there are specialists in NYC but before I make a trip To NY was wondering if there is anyone else they can recommend within an hour drive from Lakewood?

Dr Sherman at shore pediatric dentistry.

He did two of my kids as newborns, tongue and lip ties.

Call them and tell them that your son is suffering and ask if they can squeeze you in.

Make sure to do the exercises they show you so it doesn’t close back up.

Michelle Farfell is a lactation consultant in Red Bank.
Jackie Hines is a PT in Red Bank who works with babies with tongue ties.
Chaya Lighten hi Highland Park is a lactation consultant.
These are the best that I know of within an hour to diagnose. There is no one local who is competent enough to retire it for you. Your best bet is Dr. Scott Siegel in Manhattan.

Thanks so much for the replies.
I’m going to look into the recommendations.

Just curious for anyone who went through tongue tie..what were the symptoms?

I’m going crazy because feedings are so so difficult. I’m secretly hoping it’s tongue tie because I don’t know what else to think!
We first thought reflux…colicky..stomach etc but at the end of the day it’s boiling down to an actual
Struggle with feeding

I went to Dr. Sherman and followed his directions for follow up care very precisely. My dc had to have his revision done again because it was done incompletely the first time with Dr. Sherman. That's why I don't recommend his work.

I was happy with Dr Sherman. I'd go there, especially with a 7 month old. For a newborn I might go back to Dr. Dahl in Manhattan, who did my first child, since she snips it. Dr. Sherman does laser, which is more precise, but has a harder recovery. I believe Dr Dahl wouldn't touch a 7 month old. Snipping isn't as safe with bigger, stronger babies.
Chani Gelbwachs is a lactation consultant that diagnosed my baby's tongue tie. Rivky Shwartz recommended her. She's in Lakewood. 9087830115

I know several people who have had to have a re-revision with Dr. Siegel as well. Getting some form of body work done is the best chance at avoiding a revision, but even with that, it might still grow back. It's not necessarily a reflection of the practitioner.

Dr. Dahl is no longer practicing. Shame because she was knowledgeable and took insurance.

Thank you for this info. How much did Chani charge to diagnose?

Sara fleischer is a SLP in Lakewood. She can probably do a good assessment and diagnosis as well as a referral to someone who can do the release.

Yes it definitely sounds like tongue tie. My advice would be to go to a specialist right away. My now 9 month old was diagnosed by LC when he was 5 weeks old. Didn’t want to travel, so I did it locally. Big mistake! Ended up having to redo it at 5 months.
I used Dr Kotlow in Albany, he takes insurance. He diagnosed my son w tongue tie and lip tie.
Bh after that he finally started drinking bottles normally and gained weight.

I don't know her pricing. She diagnosed my baby in La Isha at no cost
