Hi! We are looking for a name to go with Zalman (either as a first or second name) that's not Shlomo or Shnuer.
We are an American yeshivish-type family. Any ideas are welcome!

Zalmen is a nickname for Yekusiel. So with Yekusiel go Yehuda (Yekusiel Yehuda is Zalmen Leib) and Moshe or probably any other name. Zalmen afaik doesn't go anywhere by itself.

Zalman is actually the Yiddish version of Shlomo (think along the sound of Solomon/Zalman) which is why it so often goes together.
You dont have to put it together, just mentioning why it usually is.

You more often here Zalmen for Yekusiel than for Shlomo. Think about all of the famous Zalmen Leibs. They are all Yekusiel Yehudas.
Shlomos can have Zalmen sons and Zalmen fathers can have Shlomo sons. But Zalmen isnt a name given alone. Just like you can have an Aryeh father and Yehuda son even though Leiby can be a nickname for each, just not with father and son obviously.
This may also be a cultural thing as I think in the litvish world there are less Yekusiel Yehudas aka Zalmen Leibs.

In the litvish world there are many people who are in their mid 20s named Shlomo Zalman, named after R' Shlomo Zalman Aurebach. Other than that Zalman is not a common name and usually only used to name after a relative.
Besides Shlomo Zalmans I know a Zalman Yaakov if that helps you OP.

Zalmen leibs are named Yekusiel Yehuda by the bris, on their kesuba, etc. Just want OP to know this but I'm sure she would also discuss with her rav irl.

We already have a son named Aryeh so anything with Leib is out and another son named Moshe (but those names both sound nice with Zalman)
Does Zalman Yekusiel go together?

Of course. It would probably just be Yekusiel itself (said at the bris, written on the kesuba) with Zalmen as the nickname. Or you could do Yekusiel Zalmen but I would discuss it with a rav as it would not be the typical.
