Hi, does such a thing exist anywhere in America? If your child has dyslexia and you kept the child in a frum school with extra support did that work out long term? If you put your child in a not jewish school for children with dyslexia how did that work out long term? TY!!

It depends what city you are in, different frum schools vary in what resources they offer. Dyslexia can be moderate or severe. If a middle schooler still isn't reading despite interventions in frum schools, they definitely need a special school. If an elementary school student is seeing progress, albeit slow progress, then they should monitor the student within the frum schools. If by 4th grade they still aren't reading at all, they should definitely not wait longer before looking into other options.
The earlier you put into non Jewish school, the sooner they can learn to read and re-integrate into frum schools.

Right, I don't want to wait until my child is in middle school and not reading. I'm also very hesitant to place in a not jewish school. I can't imagine them missing three years of their jewish studies and then being able to jump right back in when they return to a jewish school. Even after school tutoring in jewish studies will leave the child with deficits. Wondering if anyone has done this and if its worked out.

What grade is your child in . I totally hear you I am in the same boat I looked into the sheffa school Mentioned and I love the program but it’s $$$$. Right now I am paying for out of school reading help. I picked up on it very young bec She had some same delays as one of my nieces Who is got diagnosis dyslexic in later years. I also already have held my child back so I Really don’t want to pull her out of the school Where is socially she’s doing great. We were doing og program For 2 1/2 years and then we had to switch specialist Now she’s doing Wilson’s. But her reading group in school is using og. She’s pulled out a lot, the school she’s in has good resources Behaviorally she’s a good kid so that we’re we are at . We are also in Speech and OT . If you are in Brooklyn there’s a school called pathways That’s for dyslexic. Also in nj There’s Sinai but They will have kids with all sorts of delays and diagnosis. My daughter is in 2nd grade and she’s is reading but at a very low level and slow And it’s definitely a lot of work for her Reading like three or four pages in a easy reader book like a level one or two tires her out.
