I’m remembering an old tape of Jewish songs I used to borrow from a neighbor with english lyrics called (I believe) the English Classics. Can’t seem to find it anywhere online. I would love any info on it. Name of songs, composers etc.
Some lyrics I remember:
“ I would fly on the wings of an eagle, I would fly to a land that is free, where my children can grow and prosper, Come, oh come my beloved with me, so she dreamed a dream and plotted a scheme…”
Also looking for a song I once heard someone sing, written in memory of a woman (named Shoshana?) who passed away.
“Once upon a kingdom not very long ago, a king looked out the window of his palace. He noticed one thing lacking, a garden to behold, the colors and the fragrance of the flowers. He called the finest gardeners and the ground they sowed an plowed and early in the springtime a bud began to sprout, a rose among the flowers a treasure for the king, Dodi Arod Lgano Bilchol Shoshanim”
Thank! Any info would be appreciated!

I know the first song! Didn’t hear it in years!!!! I always thought it was a song made up for camp color war….
I can still picture someone strumming on the guitar while singing this.

I know this song and I thought it was a song for a camp cantata. I only remembered the last couple of lines starting from "a rose among..." but it passes through my head frequently!
The quote is from Shir Hashirim; the words are "dodi yarad l'gano... lilkot shoshanim."

Something like this. I may be off. I learned it over 20 years ago.
Once upon a kingdom
Not very long ago
A king looked out the window of his tower
He noticed something lacking
A garden to behold
The fragrance and the beauty of the flowers
He called his royal gardeners
And the land started to plow
And it was very soon after
That a bud began to sprout
A rose among the flowers
A treasure for the king
Dodi yarad legano lilkot shoshanim
A garden grew and flourished
With petals large and bright
A rich bouquet to fill the kings desires
They came from near and far
To enjoy its pleasant sight(this splendid sight?)
But one outstanding bloom they all admired
Upon it, eyes would linger
And the people laughed and smiled
The beauty of its vibrance
Held a message for each child
A rose...
Years passed very quickly
And each and every spring
The rose surpassed itself in its perfection
The pride of all the people
The pleasure of the king
It earned its special love and its affection
One day, one early morning
When the sun still brightly shone
The king went to his garden
And plucked it for his own
A rose..
Oh how can we continue
Oh how can we go on
Without this rose, the people's hearts were breaking
Now their lives seemed empty
The garden, so forlorn
They cried and grieved their precious bloom was taken
But we must draw out comfort
From the joy it chose to bring
For somewhere in the palace sits a rose beside the King
A rose...

The rose song makes me cry.
I learned it either right before or right after my grandmother passed away, and that's what I associate it with. And I was young when I leaned it.

Thanks for all the leads! I’ll definitely look into finding a copy of that old Suki and ding tape. I would still love to find out the background story of the “Rose” song, it’s so beautiful

A relative of mine passed away recently and not sure why the chorus of the rose song came to mind and has been haunting me! I would love to listen to a recording- any idea where I can find it? I tried googling and this thread showed up

Same! I think of the words A Rose among the flowers, a treasure for the king...but I don't know any more.
Would love to hear it again.
