I can't cope any more with my carpeted floors, they are so stained and always look messy. I want to replace it. I'm looking at laminate and originally I was going to go with 8mm, which is what we were told would be fine. My cousin insists that 8mm is much too thin and it's worth paying the extra (money isn't an issue for her).
I don't know enough about flooring to know. We don't have a lot of money but this is something that will hopefully last a long time and we would pay the extra if it really makes such a difference.
Also does it make a difference cleaning, or general wear and tear?
Has anyone looked into it and can say their experience?
TIA

There is more to quality than thickness. This is an excellent overview

Not op, but when I researched this a few months ago when we were looking to replace our carpet, we were told there's not enough difference between the 8mm-12mm to make it worth paying the extra.
We're very happy with our 8mm.

LOL Lol! Yes I guess I must have started the thread and forgotten. We went with an AC4 8mm laminate. I don't remember much more detail than that now. I just remember that first day coming into the dining room and being wowed at how much brighter and bigger the room looked. We previously had old worn dark carpet and I still can't get over the difference.
We went for a light grey wood color that looks really nice and fresh. My only regret is that I have to mop the floor more often as I see the dirt more. But I wouldn't change the color even if I was doing it again. What I'm also happy we did is we redid the whole downstairs at the same time. It didn't cost much more to add on the room we weren't originally doing and I like the way it flow from one room to the next without the plates at the doorways.
