Hi
I'm really worried about my 10 month old baby. He doesn't eat any solids.. hes formula fed, and the only solids he will eat are baby jars, oatmeal and bamba. I tried giving him cherrios, soft carrots from chicken soup, gerber puffs and what not. He gags and chokes on all of these. Anything with texture won't do.. he takes it into his mouth, and swishes it around till he starts gagging away.. eventually he either swallows it or ends up throwing up.I have no idea what this means.. Is it sensory? My baby is tongue tied.. my pediatrician doesn't seem worried at all and said the tongue tie isn't related. Anyone can relate? Is it time for ot? I keep on reading posts here how imas give their 6 months and 8 months old baby stuff like ww bread and pb, rice cakes, cherrios,.. all these stuff. My baby isn't eating those at all.. help!

Gagging is how they learn it’s ok and not a concern. Keep offering different food and let him play with it and practice until he gets better.

You need a SLP that specializes in feeding.
Your son needs to be exposed to more textures to desensitize his gag reflex.
I'm an SLP but I specialize in language, feeding isnt my domain. But I can give your numbers of some colleagues to go to

First things first, take care of the tongue tie. Tongue ties can absolutely affect the gag reflex. Also prevents sucking and chewing.

My youngest refused any solids (jars and bottles included) until she was 11+ months old, and she was therefore exclusively breastfed.
I wouldn’t be overly concerned yet, but it wouldn’t hurt to have him evaluated. Also, if he is tongue tied and that hasn’t been taken care of, I’d do that ASAP.

Has me crying everyday | Wow I came back to this post now and I'm like wow this was me posting about this a few months ago? BH by now by lil boy eats everything. I had taken him to an ent specialist and I was told that his tongue tie is very mild and therefore no intervention is needed. After that, I started introducing more and more solids until he eventually learnt what to do with the food in his mouth. He is however an extremely picky eater these days. He wasn't so when I started introducing all these solids. He wouldn't eat a pb sandwich. He smushes it all over the place and not one piece ends up being swallowed. I have it like that with him , with several other foods too.

Awesome!!! My youngest, the one I posted about, is my best eater. She’s getting pickier as she gets older, but I think that’s just par for the course with siblings who are all picky. Hatzlacha OP, I hope he continues to be a good eater :-)
