Following on from Country Yossi having 'kashered' non jewish songs, I was wondering how many other Jewish songs are originally not. Like I know Gershon Veroba's Variations are all originally non jewish, are there more songs like that?
I wonder how many popular Jewish songs are really something else.

A lot of frum people just don't have the cultural knowledge, it's true. Some pop hits from the 60's continue to be used in davening and zmiros today.

As a BT with musical parents, I never had this issue. I knew Sloop John B before I knew Dror Yikra.

I think one of the most famous is MBD's Yidden that came from the eurovision song genghis khan.
Also mishenichnas Adar that all our kids are going to be singing soon not dreaming where their song is coming from.

When I discovered Country Yossi in my late teens or so I was delighted with the brilliant parodies of "I Walk the Line" and "Runaround Sue." I was less thrilled when I listened to his radio show to learn more songs and had to endure an anti-evolution rant but yeah...

Country Yossi's songs are actual parodies, which means they are legally fair use and it's not a secret which songs are the originals.

Lots of intros are taken from no Jewish music. Even lev Tahor and MBD used non-Jewish intros.

Mbd's yiddish song about Shabbos, (idk it well but yiddish lyrics are something like, "vi gliklach iz ehr, ahz der Shabbos..." ) Not Jewish. But from a Jewish themed Broadway show, if that makes it better.. Jacob and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, anyone? Dating myself here.. But what a show!

There are some recent popular Jewish artists who blatantly ripped off non-Jewish songs and claimed they wrote them. Not naming names, but it really makes me sick to listen to.

Today's day there are so many songs that come from non Jewish tunes.
I recently heard my teenage son humming I'll spend 10,000 hours (it was something about learning) and I'm like hey how do YOU know that song?! My son is in a heimish/chassidish mesivta for the record.

Maybe it's a parody. Are you sure they claimed they composed the tune?

It's definitely not a parody. Their album clearly says who composed the song and gives no acknowledgement to the original.

The famous "Hashem melech" is based off a spanish song.. don't know the name but I've heard it play on the radio a few times in taxis or wtvr

Ohad's "birkat chupa" is "all of me" by john legend

There are a few artists who have put "you raise me up" to chuppah songs as well.
