I am very into exotic fruits. Being that it's almost tu bshvat I felt maybe I could get a list of al the diff kinds of exotic fruits out there. I will list what I had before

pepino melon
starfruit
goosebery
lychee
dragon fruit (yellow and pink)
passion fruit
rambutan
cactus fruit
horned melon
(I don't remember anything else at the moment will edit if needed)

What exotic fruits have you tried before ?

persimmon and rambutan are delicious! Usually when buying a new fruit they end up costing a fortune and don't taste good either. I am not sure if it's because they are imported and picked before they are ripe, or because I am not accustomed to eating that fruit and don't know how to properly select a good one and the optimum conditions that it needs to ripen properly.

It looks like a tiny oval orange. The skin is sweet, and you eat the whole thing. Where you buy it probably depends on where you live, but stores that carry some of the other fruits you mentioned probably carry it.

I find kumquat to be sour. Is that how they taste when bought in season and ripened properly?

If you live near any ethnic markets / Chinatown, check out the fruits they are selling. When they are in season, some of the exotic fruits that taste gross on Rosh Hashana are actually very good when bought at the appropriate time of year.

Is there any place like that near Lakewood?

They're more sour than orange, but not as sour as lemon, IMO. I don't imagine you'd find the peak ones to your taste if you don't like things that are a bit sour. I do.

I also enjoy cranberries, fresh, or cooked with a minimum of sugar and a bit of OJ.

Slightly off topic - but one thing that drives me crazy is the amount of fruit displayed in stores outright for Tu B'Shevat that's actually ha'adama (at least according to my LOR). Exotic melons, strawberries, or those dried banana slices...

I love tamarillo, I'm always looking forward to tu bishvat season and rosh hashana season when the jewish fruit stores are selling all types of exotic fruit.
There's also a different fruit that is a little similar to passion fruit but orange peel and greyish inside and it's so sweet and delicious!
