At what age do you let your children eat hard candies (I’m talking about the kinds you have to suck on).

Same here. I'm still nervous when my 8 & 10 year olds eat hard candy. When I was 10, I choked in school on a hard candy, it's still in my bones.

Do you mean that it's still physically inside of your body? Or that you're still traumatized?

Thanks for the responses. When I googled it I kept seeing not before 4 or 5… and that just sounds way way too young! Was wondering what other people do and how long I can push off giving them to my kids…

Oh my, it's not still in my body bh! It went shooting out.
I wouldn't say I'm traumatized, but I can still recall the fear and panic very clearly.

My rule is 6 years old and even then they need to sit still and can't get up until they are done eating it. Once they are older I just tell them not to get wild, run, jump etc when they have a candy in their mouth.

You can push it off as long as you want. What's the rush?

I reluctantly started letting my children have them at age 5 or 6, but very rarely. We avoid buying them most of the time, that is, I have "drilled" dh not to buy them and I discourage the kids from buying them from their money. If occasionally a few slip through, so be it.
But they are a choking risk beyond that age, no doubt. They are dangerous.
Another thing is, if they bite them, they damage the teeth.
