I am relatively new in my position. I work in an office and like my co-workers but have a very difficult boss. It makes doing my job difficult as he can be very moody, to the point of not even speaking to me when in a bad mood. Sometimes I even find myself forgetting what I need to say or ask him because he’s yelling at me or someone else. It’s common knowledge, as people don’t stay long in our department. They transfer to other departments after a year or two.
I just need a strategy to help me stay focused for now.
Any advice?
Side note: he’s not going anywhere as he brings in a huge amount of money for the company.

Do the same as everyone else....stick it out for a bit, and transfer out as soon as you can.

As Chayalle posted, stick it out until you can transfer.
In the meantime keep your head low and concentrate on your work. If you need to ask him something write it down or use an email if you really need a response.
A moody shrieker - at least in my experience - isn't the worst kind of boss to have because at least they are up front and not sneaky. I have worked with both kinds (as well as great bosses) and preferred the shrieker because they don't harbor a grudge and once their tantrum is over calm is restored and you didn't have to watch your back.

Also, having worked with some not-so-easy people in the past....can you communicate via email instead of directly? So you don't forget what you have to say or ask or say when he's yelling at everyone who tries to talk to him. Just send him an email with what you need him to know.
