Move to France. They have nearly as many vacation days as work days.

But really unless you’re sick a lot you should have enough days left to vacation.

Not a bad idea, I'll consider it LOL

OP your angry that your employer is not paying you to go on vacation?

I was sick not on vacation, thanks for your lack of sympathy. I use my vacation days for the chagim.

This is not true. If someone is given 56 hrs of PTO that isn’t close to enough for yom tov.
14 days us pretty standard. Again not close enough for sick days, yomim tovim, kids days off (vacation, sick, school performances)
Many frum women who work for non Jewish companies take little to non vacation other than yomim tovim.

I don't think people are unsympathetic - they are just explaining that people get X amount of paid time off and can allocate it how they want.

You are not being cheated because you get the same amount of paid time off but it is not divided into vacation days and sick days

Employers do this for a variety of reasons and most employees prefer it because they don't have to lie and pretend they are sick if they need to take a personal day.

As others have pointed out, you didn't realize this because you probably didn't get sick before so never used any of your paid time off.

New York is probably better than most states since it actually requires some amount of "sick days". Many states don't have that so some workers have no paid time off - not for illness or for vacation. It is one of the reasons they attempted to provide paid time off for COVID infected workers because otherwise there would be an incentive to come to work sick and infect others.

Is there specific paid sick days for COVID? I was told that ended in September 2021. Meaning now everyone will want to come to work sick.

No - I was explaining why they instituted special policies for COVID because so many people in the US have no sick leave so must work or else they make no money. And it is especially harsh because generally the lower paid workers have the least benefits and have less of a financial cushion if they can't earn money.

It was a carved out exception because the US has no government mandated benefits like civilized western democracies because you know - socialism LOL

That’s if you work in a secular company but then you usually get secular holidays off.

According to Google, most workers in big companies get around 19 days PTO - combined vacation/sick.

Yet, if they get Covid twice and have to quarantine 10 days each, nothing is leftover for the chagim. See what I'm saying?

Was told they do, by my HR department. If you know otherwise, please give me a legal source.

For sick days they can't make me come in, but unfortunately my rent doesn't pay itself. Sad I have to take PTOs for sick days or I can't support my family.

Ask HR about your short term disability benefits are. I believe it kicks in if you are sick for 5 days with the same illness. Then you will have at least partial pay without losing your pto.

Thanks, I think I will. I really don't want to lose any PTOs, after chagim and children's plays nothing is left.

5 days if no symptoms, if you have them it's 10.
