Dh had terrible eczema as a child. The only thing that helped is only using Dove bar soap. It's all I use on my daughter, and our pediatrician marveled at how soft her skin is. She said she has the softest skin of any baby she's seen.

We were told not to put water on the skin at all for a week to let the natural oils back into the skin. I was very skeptical but with a kid in hospital every month with cellulitis, I reckoned not much to lose. It made a HUGE difference. I ended up not washing him for 3 weeks (don't throw up), I spot washed the dirty areas with a wet towel and wiped the rest of his body with baby oil on a clean cloth. After 3 weeks, the eczema was gone. We slowly started washing him. First with boiled water from the kettle cooled and no soap, then with tap water with no soap etc etc. But never, ever to let him soak in the bath. Just a quick wash and out. Today (2 years later) apart from spots behind his ears and knees, he is bH still clear and can tolerate water on his skin as long as he doesn't soak in it for a while.
