Is he honest with his assessments? (like suggesting work/procedures be done when it may not be necessary, etc..)
Is he patient? Does he have good bedside manner?
From what I know from calling his office he is a bloody fortune and does not accept any insurance.

I will be honest with you. I went for a second opinion to him on a matter that was quite trivial. I do see him as a genius but I regret paying him 150 dollars for a quick decision that was made in less than 10 min with a referal to go somewhere else to get the work done. I see him as honest though , I don't feel he is doing or suggesting unneccesary work. He is a nice dr to talk to. I don't know about his patience as I remember he told me that he was exhausted from so many patients that day. I am not suggesting that you don't go because of my experience I am just saying that my thing was quite minor and I don't think I needed to see someone top like him. If your situation is serious I would say (not by experience though) that it would be a good choice to see him. (If you don't find anyone else good that takes your insurance)

Honest and does amazing work. Expensive but worth it.

I use Dr malek. No idea if she deals with gum disease but had great experience with her for root canals, implants and regular dental work. She does not take marketplace or Medicaid insurance , though.
