The yiddish pronunciation of compote is com-put, stress on the second syllable.

What are the vowels like? Nah-ker-lach or no (like the word no) ker lach?

Is com-put with an ah sound in the first syllable? Is the pi in ptcha more like an uh sound?

The yiddish pronunciation is come-PUT.
The American pronunciation is COM-pote.

Compote is pronounced as com-PUTT (‘putt’ not ‘put’).

Yeah but compote has the actual fruits in it and komPOT is just the juice from the fruits. You drink it.

Same here and I’m from bp, but everyone I know pronounces it this way

We say nukalach. No R there.

Well I never heard it called com-put until I moved to Boro Park.

Before that, I'd seen cans of fruit compote but I never met anyone who made it.
