What are the vowels like? Nah-ker-lach or no (like the word no) ker lach?
Is com-put with an ah sound in the first syllable? Is the pi in ptcha more like an uh sound?

The yiddish pronunciation is come-PUT.
The American pronunciation is COM-pote.

Yeah but compote has the actual fruits in it and komPOT is just the juice from the fruits. You drink it.

Well I never heard it called com-put until I moved to Boro Park.
Before that, I'd seen cans of fruit compote but I never met anyone who made it.
