They are kosher for Pesach, as well.

What are you looking for? They come in cans or smaller square plastic containers with a plastic/foil lid, a bit like yoghurts. Normally coloured red. They'll probably be near the other canned vegetables.

I'd estimate that tomato paste is sold in every supermarket and makolet in the country.

Is it better than the Israeli version?

OP, note that tomato paste comes in different concentration. The usual one 22 bX and 28 bX. 28 bX more concentrated and IMHO tastier. Usually comes in regular sized cans. I divide the can in small portions in plastic bag and freeze. If not frozen it tends to mold in fridge.

Supermarket have changed to the better. When I made aliya many supermarkets didn't have the selection they have today. Lots of things have changed to the better.

I remember when supermarkets first started carrying cream cheese.

We didn't always have everything we do now.

Tomato paste and tomato sauce are two different products. Are there Israeli brands that make tomato sauce?

I have not seen gefen or liebers tomato sauce for pesach.

Tmato sauce is essentially tomato paste with water and spices. We make tomato sauce all the time out of tomato paste.

You're right. It's just so much easier to simply open a can.

I haven't looked for it. But Cheaperkol on Kanfei Nesharim normally has a lot of American products, especially for Pesach.

Oh yes
When Napoleon cream cheese was a new thing Smile
When Selected by Carmel Mizrachi was the top of the line and much more expensive than it's today
When milk exclusively came in plastic bags Smile
When you hardly could find liquid soap for washing dishes (as the "mishcha" was the usual thing people used)
When every standard household had glass mugs and glass plates as opposed to porcelain

Yeah, but tomatoes/tomato products are a long-standing staple here.

Tomato paste got a lot of attention on this thread. Tomato juice is also easy to find, by the juices. I buy the liter carton by Spring, sold near the other Spring fruit beverages. There are probably other brands, but that one is readily available.
