At what age did you start with applesauce, mashed sweet potatoes etc.

Also, did it make a difference if you were breastfeeding formula feeding?

Thanks!

I was breastfeeding and I started food at six months and a bit. I did regular foods from the start, not just mushy foods. I would have started at that time if formula feeding too.

6 months regular food no mush. Look up baby led weaning much better method than spoon feeding mush that most babies hate

6 months, never bought baby food though. Just started with normal food. No picky children.

I formula feed and I usually start solids around 5 months, with baby cereal and baby food combined. I do try to give normal food occasionally, but I find the baby jars easier (especially when I'm packing up for the babysitter).

Each kid was different.
My oldest was a gagger. She could handle real food until almost a year.
My others I waited until they were hungry and interested in food. About 4-6 months.

Gagging's not bad though, it helps babies learn to eat. I exposed my kids to everything from 6 months, and my oldest child used to gag a lot. She didn't mind.

(I'm not criticizing your parenting, I'm just stating this for everyone's general knowledge.)

Gagging is 100% fine. It's how children learn to regulate food intake and it prevents choking. There is nothing wrong with it. And parents should continue giving their babies food even if they gag. It's just uncomfortable for the parent to watch but it's fine for the baby.

My baby now started with real food at 6 months. My previous babies did the jar baby foods starting at 5 months and did that for a couple of weeks before I started adding in foods that they fed themselves. Honestly it worked just fine to do it that way. Whatever works for you and your baby. There is a convenience in skipping the jars though because itโ€™s nice not to have to sit there spooning food into their mouths- instead baby can sit with you while you eat and your hands are free to feed yourself ๐Ÿ™‚
