I live in an older house. the house just has an old type of smell to it. I am very sensitve to smells. I appreciate clean and airy.

is it the old wooden floors?

there is no mold bh

it only feels fresh after the cleaning lady leaves.

in the morning after the windows were closed at night it just has a stench!

what else can I do to help it smell better?

Keep the windows open a bit overnight. Could it be there's no cross ventilation and that's what's causing it?

Same here! And I redid my entire house before moving in so no old floors and it still has an old house smell. It especially bothers me when I come home form being away for shabbos...

Run a good quality air filter all the time . Ooc, how are you sure there is no mold?

Clean your floors with a good wood cleaner that has a pleasant smell.
If you have any rugs or carpets spray them with a fabric spray a few times a week
Buy like 20 small boxes of baking soda all over your house. Switch them every second month. The odor will slowly get absorbed.

I use plug-in air fresheners throughout the house. In our case, it's the dog that makes the house smell. And since she hates baths and smells the next day anyway, I've learned to live with it. (No one else notices the odor like I do.)

Plug-ins only last a few weeks, but I find they help.

Are you the only one who notices the smell? If so, it may just be that you're sensitive to that particular odor and you should do what you can to mask it. As long as it's not a moldy or gas smell.

Did the previous owners own a pet? If so, the smell is caked into the flooring.

When you notice the house has the smell, become a defective. Get down on your hands and knees and figure out what the source is and where the smell is emanating from. Then you'll know how to deal with it.

My house smelled gross when I moved in. The previous owners had a dog and were not clean in general. I had to wash the walls, where I think the dog slobbered all over (makes me dry heave even thinking about it lol). After that, no more problems.

I wouldn’t rule out mold. It might be somewhere you can’t see it. But try washing down the walls if haven’t already. Also clean the carpets if not already done.
