What is the cost of life in monsey compared to Brooklyn?
How much is rent usually (for decent 3 bedroom - non basement)
I know property taxes are higher there. Is the cost of living higher?

You can get away with things such as a car in Brooklyn so that can help cut costs. Woman can get part time job walking distance to help with finance. Monsey rent is not much cheaper than city and owning a home is expensive as well. Taxes alone would be about as much as renting a smallish apartment in the city. In my opinion, In monsey you have more quality of living but easier to get into debt.

We moved from Brooklyn to Monsey years ago, and life is absolutely not cheaper than in Brooklyn. If something, it's more expensive. We didn't have a car in Brooklyn, I need to take taxi everywhere. Tuition in Monsey is more expensive. Groceries are more expensive. Most things are more expensive in Monsey. Rent is probably the only thing that's cheaper, and it's becoming not so cheap anymore. A new 3 bedroom apartment nowadays can be $2500-$2900.

When you are buying a house you will get more for your money in monsey, but property taxes are higher.
