Do you have any ideas what I can suggest to my elderly mother to do on Shabbos. She does not really enjoy long novels anymore but she is happy reading jewish newspapers or short stories. She does not enjoy Mishpacha or Ami.
She likes Rummikub but since we play it a few times every Shabbos I am thinking of suggesting a different game.
She doesn't find it easy to walk other than for a few minutes.
I would really appreciate any ideas.
TIA

subscriptions to all the jewish newspapers.
try some new and easy card games, like even war, go fish, crazy 8s...
photo albums
isometric exercises
some easy board games she might enjoy
kid visits are always good
would she enjoy visits from hs girls that might be able to arrange?
Hatzlocha!

Is she able to read comfortable? Would a magnifying sheet help her enjoy the periodicals?

Got it. I have an elderly relative who is totally bH with it but can't get into books anymore. It's hard.

An older person I know who enjoyed Rummikub surprised us all by loving the game Set. (He originally played it to humor a young niece.) Othello is also sometimes enjoyed.

You can take her to a games cafe during the week and try out new games.
Borrow from a Jewish library books of short stories.
Does she have any more mobile friends who can come over and visit?

Short stories (does she read non Jewish literature)— maybe books with large type?

I think if there were recommendations of a particular jewish book which has short stories and if I read it and then tell her that I have read the book and I recommend it then maybe she would try one.
I wish there was a jewish magazine that catered for jewish people above the age of 75. The print could be larger than normal size with among other things abridged books and personal stories written by those over a certain age. I don't think that exists. Let me know if it does.
Thank you for your ideas so far.

Could you leave certain kitchen jobs for her - cutting up salad, which can be done sitting?
Or setting the table, especially if it's disposables which are not heavy. When my elderly parents visit they'll also help drying dishes.
