My one year old had a pretty bad fall and broke his first front tooth. We took him to the hospital where the dentist on call mentioned they were unable to put it back and that we’d just have to wait until his permanent teeth come in. I can’t imagine my baby going through the next 7/8 years with a front missing tooth. Is there anyone who went through something similar or can direct us for a second opinion?

Of course not, a good dentist can make it look good. My son broke both his front teeth falling on the kitchen floor. Unfortunately they weren't baby teeth, they were fresh adult teeth. Our dentist did an amazing job. His little friends were very impressed!

My son lost his two bottom ones a few weeks after he got them.
His new ones grew in a little discolored but didn't have any other effect (we were told to keep an eye on his speech)

Did his whole tooth come out or is it broken?

If its a baby tooth that fell out, there is nothing they can really do. However, such a fall, can have an impact on his adult tooth beneath it.

You can take him to the dentist to get it fixed. But many dentists won't touch baby teeth. My daughter chipped 2 front baby teeth as a toddler and they stayed chipped till they fell out.

The whole tooth is intact. It came out from the root

I hope this won't sound insensitive but it's not that bad. He doesn't need that tooth to function. He will have a funny smile for longer than other kids do, that's all. It can be his quirk. And I do know someone in my family who this happened to.

The entire tooth came out or a piece broke off?
If the entire tooth came out, there's nothing really that can be done for a baby tooth. He'll look cute with a missing tooth till the new tooth comes out.

How old was he when they grew in?
Was he self conscious of it?

I think a missing baby tooth is super cute actually.
But maybe that’s just me.

My son as a baby had his tooth nearly completely fall out from falling down the stairs. It was hanging by a thread. I pushed it back into place and it reattached amazingly. I was warned he might have a problem when it’s time to fall out but it was perfectly normal.

There is a method of holding the tooth in place by taping it to the next teeth and it grows back in. You should try it.

My son lost his front tooth as well shortly after his first birthday. It doesn’t bother me anymore. He’s almost three now and looks adorable. It complements his personality so well.

The dentist mentioned that this happens more often than you would think. When baby teeth are so new, they are still really loose and not deeply rooted.

Just make sure to take your baby for twice yearly visits to make sure the other teeth aren’t crowding the empty space and that everything looks good!
