Does anyone have experience in publishing a book with one of the standard Frum publishing companies?
What are the standard royalty rates offered?
Were you happy with the process?
How long did it take for your book to actually go to print?
Any advice for a rookie in this field?

I was happy with Tfutza. Pay was $1.50 a book for the first thousand sold, then I think 10% of the sale price after that. It took around 6 months from acceptance until the book was in print.

I've had 10 + books published
They are all different publishers but most gave me 10% royalties. I've put out a few pictures books too and was told that in our world the author pays the illustrator. Once I couldn't pay so the publisher paid the illustrator but I didn't get royalties on the first 700 copies sold.

Thanks for your answers!
With the 10% royalty, did you have to lay out the printing cost or they covered it for you?

I published 2. I got 10% after 1000 sold... So a few thousand on my first book and nothing on the second.

No. Publishers that charge the author for expenses have to pay a lot more than that.

Why nothing on the second?
1000 sounds like a lot, how long did it take to sell that many?
Did you do your own promo or relied on the publishing co for that?

The second book sold just under 1000. Original round of purchases was just over 900. The first book was popular, I got the first check after maybe 6 months.
They told me that the first 1000 books covers costs. No I didn't give any money first.
