he has tons of seforim

It isn't worthwhile price wise. Only if he is staying longterm and specially wants the copies he already has.

Maybe try finding someone who is bringing a lift to Israel in the near future.
Otherwise, how many books are we talking about? 10? 30? 100? It may not be worth it, financially, as the above poster wrote, unless he is staying long term.

Either find someone sending a lift and buy some space, or else sell the seforim and let him buy here and build his library in Israel.

Does staying in Israel mean he plans to make aliyah and stay here long term? In that case put them in his lift.
If staying in Israel means for a year or two, he can manage without them. Sefarim are cheap in Israel, and he can easily buy whatever he needs. The cost of shipping g would probably be more than the cost if replacing them.
If there are a few specific editions that he wants for a certain reason, maybe people coming to Israel could bring a volume or two each.
