Hi- just trying to understand the system and what costs are involved if my sons go this route. Are dating boys' parents paying for beis medrish and/ or their housing in places like bmg and ner yisrael? And are the costs then waived when they get married so that parents can have that money to help support the couple? (Housing I assume they wouldn't pay but if there was a tuition fee?) And what are typical costs of each?

No. In fact, kollel pays a small stipend, which is not nearly enough for a family or even a couple to live on. Occasionally there may be additional small monetary incentives to attend seder every day, to arrive on time, to learn a certain number of sugyot, that sort of thing.

Yes, you no longer pay tuition once the boy is married, my MIL gives us $400/month which is what she was paying for tuition in ner yisroel. We also get $130/week from the ner yisroel kollel but the BMG kollel now gives a stipend of $1,000/month.

That was very helpful info. Thank you. Was the 400 including room and board? Or just straight tuition?

I think around $6,000 something for tuition but it was likely a subsidized rate.
