I always make salmon and want to try making different types of fish but not sure what to buy. Any recommendations for a fish to try that’s similar to salmon? Or a fish that my family who likes salmon will most likely eat as well?

I don't know of any fish that taste similar to salmon, but why don't you go to the fish counter, see what's for sale, and look up some recipes?

Tuna steaks - very meaty, may appeal to salmon-lovers
Grilled whole trout
Sea Bass - a firm white fish
Cod - more delicate in flavor
etc.

I’m really not so into fish but I buy salmon and tilapia. They are not the same but I have a recipe for each that our non fish loving family eats.

They would love sea bass. It doesn’t have a very fishy taste.

Also halibut is very good.

Turbot is even less fishy than flounder.
I bake salmon all the time and serve turbot on Yomtov to break up all salmon we're eating. I let it marinade in evoo garlic and some herbs- parsley or basil and a dash of salt. Bake for about 20 minutes and voila! Even my kids like it!

Sea bass is very expensive
I found Bronzini to have a very similar taste. It’s delicious.

Bronzini. It's delicious. Doesn't have a strong fish flavor. Very mild

How do you cook branzini? I can't have sugar and I'm not into herbs.

Pike and white fish used to be very popular, if you are cooking it.

Never even heard of some of the types of fish suggested… where do you buy it? In a fish store?

I make it 2 ways. I buy from freunds appetizing olive tampenade. Smear it on the fish. Bake. Or I Sautee onions, garlic, tomatoes, peppers, salt till soft. Smear this mixture on the fish. Wrap it in cedar wrap then bake.
