I also thought it was a prank. Until I heard the audio on the bottom of this article. The woman sounds so sincere. |
Except she couldn’t pronounce “skulenne rebbe”. Kept stumbling over the words.

I think it's flat out bizarre, but what's 'not okay' about it? You wouldn't catch me wanting one for free let alone for $50, but if someone is so inclined, what's the issue? Trust me there are even weirder things bought and sold on the internet.

Pretty sure it's a typo and they mean tish not fish-- I had to override the autocorrect that changed it to fish. It looks like challah to me. It's either mockery or sincere, and if sincere, borderline idolatrous. But since I consider the whole custom of shirayim to be borderline idolatrous, I find this innovation highly distasteful whether it's mockery or sincere.

Tell me how this differs from the Christian concept of saints' relics.

Its not a typo. It is fish, from the Rebbe's tish.
In the audio with the customer she explains that it is usually salmon or gefilte lol.
Personally I find it bizarre and somewhat gross, but a little voice inside of me is actually applauding this woman. If you can come up with a creative business idea, then go for it, and if you can get me to crack up over the absurdity of it then bonus points to you!

If this isnt a prank, why would someone record such a phone call?

It's in resin...ive seen other foods encased in resin before. Not sure how well fish would hold up but it very well might...

Dunno about ok or not, I just find it utterly gross to look at, never mind purchase.
