How much was your down payment? And how much is your mortgage? In Bklyn as well and would love what the current numbers actually look like

It's not in a central location so it's cheaper than the main areas, 800k and we're putting 160k down payment

I consider myself the average family income. Two working parents and 3 kids. I teach full time so our tuition was subsidized. High school is not subsidized- we received scholarship.

Twenty eight years ago both our parents gave us some money toward a down payment ona small 3 bedroom 2 bath home. After 12 years we added 2 average bedrooms.

We paid $239,000 for our home.
Today it's valued at 1.3 million.

My husband and I thinks that's insane.
But, we have worked very hard to make our mortgage payments.
We redid our loan papers when rates came down during covid.

We also bought our first home in our early 30s.

Everyone’s life situation is different.
It’s not good to compare.
If it’s meant for a person to have a house, it will happen.
Some people live in small houses.
Some live in big houses.
Some live in gorgeous mansions.
Some never own a home.
I wasn’t even married at 26.
When I finally got married in my 30’s I married a widower with children. I moved into his house. It’s a big house.
My friends and relatives always comment about my house.
It comes with a family that’s not really mine. It comes with a situation.
Yes, I have a nice big house but sometimes I would trade it all for a small cozy apartment since sometimes life is so complicated.
This is how it was meant to be for me.
Life is always how it’s meant to be for each of us. We have to try to remember that.
