I know it all does.......
but what do you do about those items that you know you'll buy and they'll be gone in 5 minutes?

In my house, crackers and rice cakes and applesauce will disappear super fast. Certain fruits and vegetables too. If I didn't put them off limits my kids will eat 10 hothouse cucumbers a week.
Yes they are relatively healthy and relatively inexpensive but they are GONE!!!! and they are hungry again soon afterwards.

Do you get them? Or say that it's not worth the money?

If it's nutritious, yes. If it's just a snack, no. I mean, they need to eat, right?

Don’t buy such expensive cucumbers. Buy mini cucumbers that are often on sale. Or don’t buy cucumbers at all. Rotate between other veggies.

If it's healthy, buy even more, isn't that what money is for?

If it is nutritious food how is it not worth the money? They are eating it and not throwing it away or wasting it.

If the costs are too high then get less expensive but equally nutritious items.

Also if they are hungry they aren't really eating foods that are filling them up sufficiently. For example rice crackers and cucumbers (whatever kind) aren't very filling. You should tell them to have the crackers with some peanut butter or string cheese - same with the cucumbers.

I noticed that whether I bought a nine ounce box of raisins or a four-pound bag, it would disappear in the same span of time. We eat with our eyes, and when we see a gallon jar full of raisins we grab them by the fistful; when we see a small box, we grab tablespoonsful. So I stopped buying the four-pound sack because, despite the lower unit price, it was actually less economical.

I also go for more reasonably-priced items, usually. Regular carrots, not baby-cut. Regular cukes, not hothouse cukes. Bananas, because they're the cheapest fruit around.
