Applying for unemployment if I have a job offer

I was let go from my previous job. BH I already have a job offer and a contract but not a definite start date. They told me it could take a few weeks for all the approvals to be in (it's a government job).

Am I eligible to apply for unemployment while I'm waiting to start? I do need money to live off of in the meantime...

No. You just can't get paid from a work job and from unemployment in the same week.

I applied for unemployment, but what happens next.

I'm starting the new job next week, so it ends up that I'll only be without pay for 2 weeks. Do I report that I'm working but didn't get paid yet? Also do you get paid from.the day the old job ended or only from when you applied?
